Bad breath treatment, in the clinic

In a consultation with Dr. Liza Klein we measure your breath with a halimeter and work on its cause, not the symptom — a plan built around your case.

Bad breath almost always has a concrete cause. Treatment begins by finding it.

Halitosis can originate in the mouth or in the body. That's why the first step isn't to cover the odour, but to measure it and understand where it comes from. With that information we build a plan aimed at resolving the cause, and we follow up to confirm the improvement.

How we work

What treatment includes

Halimeter diagnosis

We measure the volatile sulphur compounds (VSC) responsible for the odour. An objective number to guide treatment, not an impression.

Treating the cause

We look for the source of the bad breath — in the mouth or in the body — and work on it, instead of masking it.

Personalised plan and follow-up

We define concrete steps based on what the diagnosis shows and re-check with the halimeter to confirm the improvement.

Ozone therapy as a complement

When the case calls for it, we add ozone as an antimicrobial adjunct to help reduce the load of anaerobic bacteria that produce VSC. Always as a complement to treating the cause, never as a replacement.

“What if the bad breath comes from the stomach?”

When the assessment calls for it, we also screen for Helicobacter pylori — a common stomach bacterium and a recognised risk factor for gastric conditions. Detecting it early means it can be treated and, where appropriate, referred to a digestive specialist. A persistent white coating on the tongue and ongoing bad breath aren't a diagnosis in themselves, but they're a sign the underlying cause is worth evaluating.

When the signs suggest a systemic cause, we work alongside your doctor or the relevant specialist. A bad-breath consultation does not replace your general medical care.

When to consult

Signs it's worth evaluating the cause

If you recognise yourself in any of these situations, a consultation can help you understand what's going on and what can be done.

  • 01 Persistent bad breath that doesn't clear with brushing or mouthwash.
  • 02 A persistent white coating on the tongue or a bad taste on waking.
  • 03 Mints, sprays or rinses only work for a short while.
  • 04 Someone you trust mentioned it and you don't know where to start.
  • 05 You avoid talking up close or it causes discomfort socially or at work.
